Binghamton, N.Y., September 9, 2005 — Crowley Foods broke its own record at the 2005 Great New York State Fair, winning five gold medals and seven silver medals in the Fair's prestigious dairy foods competition. Last year, Crowley set a record by winning 10 medals in the competition.
Leading the list of awards, Crowley dominated the cottage cheese category once again, winning both gold and silver medals for every style of cottage cheese in the competition. Crowley's Arkport, N.Y., facility won gold medals for low fat and nonfat cottage cheese, and its Vernon, N.Y., plant won a gold for Crowley regular cottage cheese. Low fat, nonfat, and regular cottage cheese from Crowley's LaFargeville, N.Y., facility all won silver awards.
Crowley's Vernon, N.Y., facility also earned a gold medal for the best sour cream. Its Binghamton, N.Y. facility took home a gold medal for the best buttermilk in the state.
"This is another banner year for us, and proof of Crowley's overall commitment to quality," said Milt Cutway, Crowley Food's Vice President of Operations. "We work hard to produce the best products we possibly can and this confirms the dedication and craftsmanship of our staff at our facilities."
In addition, silver medals were given to Crowley for its cream cheese from the LaFargeville plant, for sour cream dip from the Arkport plant, and for milk from both Crowley's Binghamton facility and its Albany, N.Y., facility. The medal tally set another record for the company; its previous best was 10 medals at the 2004 New York State Fair, which set a record for Crowley at that time.
"We're very pleased to be recognized again this year as New York's best," said Joe Cervantes, Chief Operating Officer of Crowley Foods. "It takes a great team of people to continually earn these awards, and we're very proud to know we're putting great dairy products on food store shelves."
