Crowley Milk Honored as Capital Region's Best

Binghamton, N.Y. — It's official. Crowley milk is the best in the dairy case throughout New York's Capital Region.

In the prestigious year-long dairy competition that concluded at the 2004 Great New York State Fair, milk from Crowley Food's Albany plant won the silver medal statewide claiming top honors as the best milk in the Albany area. In the competition, judges from Cornell University collected more than 400 samples, conducted in excess of 4,000 tests, and graded the winners based on taste, purity, fat content, and consistent flavor throughout the product's shelf life.

"We're proud that we can bring such great-tasting milk to the Capital Region," said Milt Cutway, Crowley Food's Vice President of Operations. "We work hard to produce the best products we possibly can and this confirms our efforts.

The milk award was just one of many Crowley received at the State Fair. In total, the company won five gold medals and five silver medals in the Fair's highly competitive dairy divisions.

Leading the list of awards, Crowley dominated the cottage cheese category wining both the gold and silver medals for every style of cottage cheese tested. Diet, nonfat, and regular cottage cheese from Crowley's LaFargeville, N.Y., facility swept the top honors, setting a State Fair record. Never before had a single dairy plant earned all the gold and silver medals in the cottage cheese category. LaFargeville also won gold and silver medals for cream cheese. Crowley's Arkport, N.Y., facility also won a gold medal for producing New York State's best sour cream. The haul of medals set a record for the company; its previous best was seven medals at the 2002 and 2003 New York State Fairs.
