Heart Helping Tips

Why blend cottage cheese?
Blending cottage cheese creates a smooth and creamy texture. It’s a perfect solution for someone who may not favor the texture of cottage cheese. Simply used a mini-food processor or a blender and whip the cottage cheese until it is creamy and smooth in texture.

Do heart problems run in your family? Perhaps you are trying to lower your cholesterol? Or maybe you just want to eat healthier? No matter what your goals are, make Crowley Cottage Cheese the cheese you choose. By taking this step you will be taking action to help your heart! After all, it’s National Cholesterol Education Month, what a great time to strive toward having a healthier heart. Click here for more information on keeping your heart healthy from our April 2005 article.

One of the keys to heart healthy eating is limiting saturated fat intake because saturated fat can increase ‘bad’ cholesterol levels (a.k.a. low density lipoproteins) and most cheeses have a significant amount of saturated fat. For example: by using cottage cheese instead of a ‘regular’ cheese (e.g. cheddar) you will save about 8 grams of fat per ounce of cheese used! For more details, click here, to take a look at the comparison.

The good news is that by choosing Crowley Cottage Cheese in place of other cheeses you will help your heart by consuming less saturated fat. Here are some quick and easy ways to make Crowley Cottage Cheese part of your routine:

  • Instead of cheddar cheese on a salad… top your salad with Crowley Lowfat Cottage Cheese and drizzle it with Italian dressing for a creamy and tangy twist.
  • For a light lunch…cover Crowley Lowfat Cottage Cheese with a fruit like canned mixed fruit or mandarin oranges. Tip: When choosing canned fruit for your healthiest options choose fruit canned in its own juice or in light syrup.
  • For a creamy snack… In a blender or mini-food processor combine: 1 cup of Crowley Lowfat Cottage Cheese, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla, 3 teaspoons of sugar (or sugar substitute), and ¼ teaspoon vanilla. Simply blend until smooth and enjoy!
  • For a protein packed dinner… try a recipe that uses cottage cheese! Here is a new recipe to check out:
