Get A Head Start on Your New Years Resolutions

Does this list of resolutions look familiar to you: spend more time with family and friends, fit in fitness, lose weight, and get organized? These are among the most proposed New Years resolutions. We would like to share with you some food for thought for your resolution planning and a few ideas for great goals to stick!

Set simple & attainable goals. For example, try setting a goal to make one healthy change per month over the next year instead of saying I’m going to lose X number of pounds. This will keep the goal more positive and if you’re making at least one healthy change per month, the result will likely be weight loss! Great goal example: have a glass of Lowfat Crowley Milk at dinner. Why? Swapping out a sugary drink for a glass of milk will save about 6 teaspoons or sugar per day and over the course of the month that is equal to about 4 cups of sugar saved by making one simple swap!

For all of you trying to lose weight… have you heard? Having 24 ounces of lowfat dairy every 24 hours may help to promote a healthy weight! This is another excellent, simple goal to set to make your New Year a healthier one. The exact reason why dairy promotes weight loss has not yet been determined, but here is what one study found: Women burned more fat and calories after a meal when their diets included three to four servings of lowfat dairy daily. Trying to get organized? Try this simple attainable goal: Make a shopping list before going to the grocery store and most importantly, organize your list by how you would go through the store. So if you start in the produce section, be sure to have fresh fruits and veggies at the top of your list. Then if meat & poultry comes next, think of what meat products you need for dinner this upcoming week. When it comes to the dairy case, include on list the dairy items that you need to stock up on like: Crowley Yogurt, Crowley Cottage Cheese, and Crowley Lowfat Milk! Having a shopping list will increase the likelihood of leaving the store with all of the foods that you need for your upcoming week. Additionally, by keeping a variety of lowfat dairy foods on hand, you will make it easier to reach for healthy snacks and drink options!

Working on fitting in fitness. Think of exercise as every little bit counts. For example, maybe squeeze in 10 minutes of exercise before work, take a quick 10-minute walk during lunch, and then finish your day with 10 more minutes of exercise. These three, 10-minutes segments of exercise will total 30 minutes by the end of the day you’ll have achieved the recommended daily dose of exercise.
