What is BST, rBST and/or artificial growth hormones?

Cows naturally produce BST, bovine somatotropin, a hormone that's associated with milk production. An artificial version of this hormone was developed called "rBST" (recombinant bovine somatotropin) that, when injected into cows, can increase milk production.

Why did Crowley decide to request its farmers pledge not to use artificial growth hormones?

An increasing number of consumers are looking for milk that is free of artificial growth hormones. Crowley requested that its farmers make this pledge to satisfy this demand.

Are all Crowley products made from farmers who pledge not to use artificial growth hormones?

While consumer preference for milk free of rBST has increased, we are limited by available supply. At this time, only Crowley’s white milk and chocolate milk are processed by farmers who pledge not to use artificial growth hormones.

*No significant difference has been shown between milk derived from cows treated with artificial growth hormones and cows not treated with artifical hormones.
